|Credit Control has a very important part to play in any organisation. The purpose of the Credit Control department is to ensure outstanding debt is paid on time and credit terms are at an acceptable level of risk to minimise bad debt write off. As a Credit Controller you must have a good level of education, be computer literate and have a naturally assertive manner. You will have strong analytical, technical, communication and organisation skills.
Responsibilities & Duties
As a Member of the Team
Works under direction of and reports to a Credit Control Manager.
Handles a ledger as part of a credit team.
Responsible for own cash allocation as outlined above. Post payments to accounts and allocate to open item using remittance advices or through reconciliation. Cash Allocation including discounts and rebates.
Maintains accurate and up to date customer details and account records.
Works with a minimum of supervision on collection of overdue accounts.
Has regular customer contact by phone and email. Spend a minimum of 2 hours each day making outbound customer calls in an effort to collect outstanding debt due. Target 50 calls per week.
Uses initiative to achieve targeted results, while promoting customer goodwill.
Makes adjustments, handles queries and resolves problems within company guidelines and policy.
Handle disputed bills and negotiate resolution, bring any important matters to the attention of the Credit Control Manager.
Respond professionally, promptly and completely to both external and internal customers and queries.
Undertake account reconciliations, and resolve all queries diligently.
Attend regular meetings with other members of the credit control team to ensure all relevant debts are managed as necessary; and assist other members as a genuine team player.
Use best endeavours to meet cash targets set by the Credit Control Manager.
Ensure monthly processing deadlines are met as required.
Prepare ad-hoc reporting as and when required.
Remain fully conversant with the business systems employed in the company (currently SAP B1) as it affects the workings of the Credit Control department and undertake any reasonable relevant training required in the furtherance of gaining such understanding.
Other duties as delegated from time to time by the Credit Control Manager or Financial Controller.
